SUMMARY:Bridging Medical and Social Care: University Health and Family Services
DESCRIPTION:University Health provided its patients with tailored NMDOH case management through a partnership with Family Service\, a community-based organization with more than 120 years of experience addressing the non-medical drivers that influence long-term health and life potential. Family Service was integrated into the University Health electronic health record system\, enabling seamless referrals\, coordinated care\, and ongoing follow-up. This session highlighted how the model strengthened care planning and advanced equitable access to health care by addressing the underlying factors that shape well-being. Early results showed that\, since its launch in October 2023\, the program had served more than 160 patients and initiated over 170 NMDOH pathways. \n\n\n\nClick to view the presentation slides\, here.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Medical-Legal Partnerships for Texas Health Care Professionals
DESCRIPTION:Across the country\, hundreds of hospitals\, community health centers\, and other health care providers were using the medical-legal partnership (MLP) approach to improve patient and population health. Yet many health care professionals remained unfamiliar with this patient-centered model\, which integrates legal expertise into the medical care process to address the root causes of poor health outcomes. This webinar offered an engaging discussion of how MLPs worked\, why they were gaining traction in federal and Texas health policy\, and whether the approach could benefit participants’ practices\, organizations\, and patients. For those seeking new strategies to strengthen patient health and well-being\, the session provided a practical introduction to this emerging model. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nClick to view the presentation slides\, here.

SUMMARY:Case Study: Medical-Legal Partnerships in Texas Health Care
DESCRIPTION:Building on our introduction to medical-legal partnership (MLP)\, this session explored how health care providers navigated the decision to adopt this health-law model of patient care. Drawing on real-world case examples\, we examined the key factors that shaped MLP implementation\, including organizational priorities\, patient needs\, and available community resources. For those considering whether an MLP was right for their health care setting\, the webinar offered practical insights to support informed decision-making. Participants joined a solutions-focused discussion on integrating legal expertise into patient care. \n\n\n\nClick to view the presentation slides\, here.

SUMMARY:Partnering for Impact: How CBOs and MCOs Can Address Non-Medical Drivers of Health
DESCRIPTION:Community First Health Plans and Latched partnered to provide pregnancy\, parenting\, and child safety support in San Antonio. In the 88th legislative session\, HB 1575 sought to improve maternal health outcomes by expanding case management for non-medical needs via doulas and community health workers. In response\, managed care organizations (MCOs) increasingly turned to community-based organizations (CBOs) to help address NMDOH. This webinar explained how these policy changes created new opportunities for collaboration and outlined what CBOs needed to know—and do—to build successful partnerships with MCOs. \n\n\n\nTo view the slides from the presentation\, click here.

SUMMARY:2025 Annual Texas NMDOH Consortium Conference
DESCRIPTION:To register for this in-person event\, click here! \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nRising costs and declining health outcomes are eroding the value of health care investments in the United States. To address these alarming trends\, Texas\, the federal government\, and the health care system are investing in strategies that prioritize quality and outcomes over the volume of services delivered. \n\n\n\nA key part of this shift is recognizing that health is shaped by not only clinical care but also by the conditions in which people live\, learn\, work\, and play. These non-medical drivers of health (NMDOH) — access to stable housing\, reliable transportation\, and healthy food — are now being measured and integrated into health care delivery as part of a broader effort to improve outcomes and reduce costs. As health systems expand screening and services for NMDOH\, the policy environment is adapting. In 2025\, both the Texas Legislature and the federal administration have advanced policies that directly influence how these drivers are identified and addressed in health care delivery. \n\n\n\nThis year’s theme is Beyond the Clinic: Policy Pathways for Integrating Non-Medical Drivers of Health. At this half-day event\, experts will explore the shifting policy landscape around NMDOH screening and services\, highlighting opportunities and challenges in aligning health care practices with the broader factors that shape well-being. \n\n\n\nKeynote speaker Dr. Mark McClellan\, director of the Duke-Margolis Institute for Health Policy at Duke University\, will share insights on the evolving landscape of health policy and value-based care. This event is presented by the Baker Institute Center for Health Policy and hosted by the Texas Consortium for the Non-Medical Drivers of Health. This event is free and open to the public. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n Where James A. Baker III Hall
