Shared Medical Appointments: Interdisciplinary Pathway to Reimbursement for NMDOH Services and Lifestyle Medicine

Shared medical appointments (SMAs) were evidence-based, reimbursable clinical encounters in which care was delivered in a group setting by qualified medical professionals. An interdisciplinary care team from Waco Family Medicine shared their experience implementing the model. Through this approach, they integrated nutrition and food access, physical activity, and social support into patient care, while advancing the Triple Aim of enhancing the patient experience, improving population health, and reducing costs.
