Addressing social factors is proven to benefit hospitals and health systems in a variety of ways from improving patient outcomes to reducing costs. This brief guides hospital leaders’ thinking on how they can formally incorporate social factors into their health system. For instance, board members can add four key roles of community connector, leading stakeholder, advocate, and advisor who are all uniquely dedicated to this mission. They can also work through a series of “Trustee Discussion Questions” that allow them to best serve their community and patient population.
